A Conversation with my doctor, part 2

This Saturday morning I woke up at a ridiculous time at 7.45am to meet my doctor. Bleah.

My brain felt liquified with the viscosity of mud. This is NOT a session I am going to win.

'Quickly chiawyee, go see him now!'

'My god, mama, its 8.35am. I am suppose to see him at 8.50am. There's a LOT of time...'

She pushed me out of the car. Typical.

When I met the great man, my neurons are still trying to connect to each other.

'Hello, how's medicine school?' he asked smugly, obviously thinking of the tortures he went through.

'Okay I guess,' I said blearily. Then I whined. 'This is an
unholy, unholy time to make me come for an appointment.'

'Why? Don't you wake up early for med school daily?' he nonchalently flipped through my records.

'That's the point isn't it? Weekends are for sleeping in!'

He dismissed me with a dark portrayal of my future. 'Ha, next time, you have to wake up at 3am...'

'Ok, ok.' I stopped him.

'Anyway, aren't you free in medicine school? Test readings are ok, by the way.' he added.

'No i am not,' i said, outrage at his assumption.

'Yea? Your facebook photos are full of crap.' he shook his head.

'My....' (Honestly, i knew i should have expected it, but STILL) 'You are a DOCTOR,'i accused. 'You are supposed to be too busy to look at my things...'

'Hah, you never know. I have my clique on facebook also ok.' (I don't know if you had notice, but my doctor has an inner bimbo in him, which is why we talk so well together. Not gay though. Happily married with 2 daughters, nicely sarcastic wife.)

'Hah! It's not a fair exchange of information!! Your facebook is.... EMPTY, while mine is filled with all my...'

'Crap.' He said gleefully.

We went on talking about my other doctor and my terror of meeting her. He tartly reminded me that she was very powerful.

'I am NOT questioning her powerfulness, i am just saying that she is scary.' I said matter of factly.

'Your English has deteriorated in medicine school. Powerfulness...' he observed while he listened to my breathing.

I resist the urge to stuck out my tongue at him. 'Do NOT assualt me like that in the morning while my brain is malfunctioning. It is ethically immoral, especially to your patient.'

'When is your next exam?' he asked casually. (he did not mean the december one.)

'Oh' I paused thoughtfully for a moment. 'No clue man.'

'Sigh, ' he said. 'No life!'

I narrowed my eyes. 'Did you see my facebook?' i demanded. 'It's full of life! Yours on the other hand, is empty...'

'What to do?' he lamented. 'I have to take care of people like you..'

'That's what you signed up for!' I reminded him. 'And me,' I added.

'Ok,' he said with satisfaction. 'I'll put you on valentine's day!'

'Eh,' i said. 'What makes you think I don't have a romantic appointment that day?'

He raised his eyebrows.

'The future changes,' I said nonchalently. 'But alright, we'll put it there first.'

'Right.' he said under his breath. 'That's a horrible bag by the way.' He was referring to my blood stained Globe theatre bag.

'It's Macbeth.' I said in a holier than thou voice. I always knew my interest in arts will come to some use. He definitely look like he is resisting the urge to stuck his tongue out at me.

'Bleah! Well, see you in three months than... on valentine's day...'

'Or not!' I shot back as i walked out of that door.

God, i really need to sleep.

The Parents are back!

And I am ashamed of myself.

I sold crude materialism in exchange for refine aesthetic capabilities. I completely forgive my parents for their ignorance on arts because they love their daughter well.

LOOK WHAT THEY BOUGHT ME!!!!

(ok technically speaking you can't cause i am too lazy to upload the photos.)

The previous times they called they always asked me what I wanted, to which i always reply 'it's ok', 'don't need', 'i don't know what they sell there', etc.

And they will reply in turn 'We didn't buy much anyway.'

ok.

Turns out 'didn't buy much' is a relative term.

They bought me:

1) A Pocket mirror with pink sparkling tinsel cover and the words Paris artistically set upon it, silver in colour. The A is formed by (What else?) the Eiffel Tower, and the Art de Tram is at the background. I currently spend an inordinate amount of time staring at the mirror.

2) A Harrod bear box! The bear is a dressed in a doorman costume. Ostensibly we buy it for the sweets, but obviously for the box. The sweet's crap. I shall distribute it to all my friends in hope of emptying the box. (I am just kidding friends! The sweets are brightly wrapped in colours of the rainbow. But i do want the box emptied soon!!!)

3) A Parisian felt hat! (You know, the artist kind!) Its black in colour! And I have black stockings! Going to get black pumps! *Cy senses her reputation as a bimbo rapidly escalating and decides to switch topic

4) Onyee will know this one :D They went to the Globe theatre and got me a bag that said 'Off with the damned spots!" From Macbeth. Act 5, Scene 1. (A little help here onyee)

Etc.

They went to the Louvre as demanded by their Singapore bound daughter. I am rather impressed by the surfeit of knowledge they had about the pictures and statues. Its amazing really.

'So silly, ' said mama disdainfully. 'They put a tiny picture in a frame inside a plastic box. For what? It's so tiny.'

I decided to appeal to her realistic side. 'But mama,' I said reasonably. 'Its probably worth millions and millions of dollars...'

She sniffed.

'It's a He anyway.'

I was a little surprised. 'You know about the conspiracy theory?'

'Hm.. it's a he. '

Wow. Impressive.

I'm not too sure if they truly appreciated it, but they obviously thought i did, cause there was 20 variations of the Mona Lisa picture taken at different angles, which they insist i look through to see if it was looking at me or not. They also bought a ridiculous number of mona lisa bookmarks that showed her in different profiles, including one with only her eyes in view, and a photo storer with another picture of her, and took a picture of her in my brother's phone (which they brought with them) for good measure. I think they think i am a fanatic about mona lisa, which i am not. I just want to stand before her. Maybe I should not have emphasize so much on her. God knows what their conversations have been like then:

'So, should we leave now?' mama

'Better take more, did you hear the way she talk about it? Only our daughter would be interested to see if the painting follow her or not. Get those bookmarks too. Maybe she'll feel better if she can touch the mock one.'

'Let's take a pic in her brother's cam, just in case she wants to bluetooth the picture into her phone.'

'Great idea, let's do it.'

'Do you think she is really our daughter? Why would our daughter appreciate such a weird painting?'

'Ya, heard the painter was gay too. Why should he paint himself as a girl? Weirdo.'

'Ya, weirdo. like our daughter.'

*shrugs* Oh well.

'What is that?' said I.

'Some god of Victory.' said papa.

'Goddess,' corrected mama.

I can't think of anything else missing their head that look less victorious. But by george, there is SUCH a goddess. Nike, Goddess of Victory!

'OMG, it's Nike!' I said excitedly.

'Nike? The shoe brand?'

'No, Nike is the name of the goddess, why else do you think Nike called themselves Nike?'

'Where is her head?' asked my irrelevant brother.

'My dear brother, this is the original. The remnants of time has probably swept it away.'

He gave me a slightly blank look.

'It's destroyed.'

'Orh...'

Anyway, aren't you impressed by my parents? They recognised a headless statue as a Goddess they hithero were unaware existed and did so via French information signs, which were the only signs available there!

Unbelievble!

'That's your milo'

'Huh? Oh.. Venus de milo.'

Then it was as though the muses took over my mother. 'It was believed that in the original statue she was looking at a mirror... because she has a very serene look on her face. In addition, she is believed to be fixed on a wall.'

I stared at mama. 'Wow.'

'Yea.' My mother looked at her calmly. 'She has no hands though, so its just a guess.'

Wow.

Of course, the impression of asthetic eruditition was partially marred when they all laughed at her butt crack.

And then the famous painting that had my father on his way to artistic inspirations.

'This painting is the greatest lie on earth.'

And I thought that title belonged to Coffee's eyes. (Refer to previous post for those who don't understand me. Don't known which post? I have no idea either. Conversation with dog part 2 or sth.) 'Why?'

'You see that lady sitting at the balcony? That is Napolean's mother. But she supposedly disagree with his choice of wife, and did not attend the ceremony. But he insisted that it is to be put there. Thus,' my father concluded wisely. 'It is the greatest lie on earth.'

I am tempted to tell papa that since painters often need patrons to further their career, their paintings often portray one sided view of the subject anyway, but decided not to. After all, it is rare that he can relate to a painting in a way other than size. More importantly, i am getting increasingly suspicious of their wide cache of sudden knowledge. Then came evidence.

WHAT IS MAMA WEARING????

'Oh it is the recorder that told us about the stuff.' said mama unabashedly.

Well, at least they were actually interested enought to rent it. Right?

'Our friend got for us one.'

Ok, at least it did help them appreciate the arts more right?

'huh, actually we just saw your milo and mona lisa, then we sit outside and wait for them. Later they bring us back in.'

Dots.

They journey in UK can be succinctly summarised as such:

1) Went to Buckingham Palace, but failed to see the palace guards.
2) Went to Harrods, but failed to see Princess Di's memorial.
3) Went to Globe theatre, but failed to enter the Globe theatre.
4) Went to Westminister Abbey, but failed to recognise that it is Westminister Abbey.

The fourth point is the funniest.

Look Chiawyee, we visited the Parliament building!!!

‘Where?’
‘There!’
‘Where?’
‘Neh, the white coloured building on the right...’
*silence
‘Pa, please, please tell me you don’t think that the parliament building in UK Is equal to the White House in the USA????’

‘Oh.’

I searched frantically through the pictures.
Aha!

‘What’s this mama?’

‘Don’t know. Nice building though.’

P.S. The blog is written partially for onyee, amazingly loyal reader of my blog. Happy Birthday Gal!!!! Hope you havr a great time. Hope this tickles you too :D Laughter is a great gift!!! Until we meet that is ;)

About a week ago, my parents announced that they were going to France.

France, the city of romance! France, the city of asthetics!

I excitedly cried 'You got to visit the Lourve!!!!'

Father flipped the newspaper 'What's that?'

'You know, the museum...'

'Musuem?' Father glanced at me over his newspaper. 'Funny, that's what my friend told me to visit as well.'

'And..'

'And I told him, why would i want to visit a museum for?'

*chiawyee suffered a myocardial infarction*

Recovering, I hollered 'It's not just a museum!!!!' I brought myself to even layer than layman's term. 'It's where the Mona Lisa is!!!!'

'Orh...' said father, realisation dawning across his face.

Mother sniffed. 'Why would I want to visit the mona lisa? It's not even nice.'

'Then why are you going to Paris for???' I demanded.

They reflected on my question thoughtfully.

'Good point.' said mother. 'I always wanted to visit Europe mah...'

'The Mona Lisa!!!'

'I don't see the excitement.'

'Mother!' said i, very distressed. 'To stand before her! To breathe the air she is in!!! To see something that Da Vinvi carried around everywhere, his favourite painting!!!'

'He carried it with him everywhere?' said mother disdainfully. 'Then its not very big...'

'Well, no, but that is not the point...'

It still hasn't escaped me that my parents, more practical than the soil of earth, have gone of to the city of romance and dreams, famous for its art. What they will actually do there, i have no idea.

I received a call today. From the backgroun noises, which consists of tinkling cutleries, i concluded my parents are dining at one of those ubiquitous alfresco places in France. Damn.

'Mama!'

'Hello, how are you there?'

'Boring.' I summarised my existence succintly. 'You seen the Lourve???'

'Oh yes.'

'And?'

*pauses

'I keep saying chiawyee should be here instead.'

'Mother! Anyway, did you see the Venus '

'What's that?? Planet?'

'You know, the armless woman statue...'

'Orh, your god of love arh? Yea, i seen it.'

I gave up hopes of suddenly artistic inspirations and appreciation on my mother.

'Did you see Mona Lisa.'

'Ya, we saw mona lisa.' She sounded as though she was describing a tree trunk.

'And?'

Another pause.

'Not very big leh...'

Father took the phone from mama.

'Chiawyee!!! Do you know the coronation of Napoleon?' He was very excited. Eureka, I thought. The muses strike my father!

'Yea, he was the Emperor of France once wasn't he?'

'Huh? I think so. It's a painting!'

I smiled. 'Is it nice?'

'It is famous!'

'Really?' I made a mental note to check it out. 'How so?'

'It's REALLY BIG!' said my happily contented father.

I decided to change the topic to stop this assualt on my sensibilities.

'Is paris pretty?'

'Well...' I imagine father checking out his surroundings. 'If you like, what's that, old building and cobbled streets i supposed...'

Like? Like? Oh papa!

'Have you guys seen the Eiffel Tower???'

'What's there to see?' demanded Mother. 'I see it everyday over my hotel window.'

Oh Lord.

'Oh, we visited the Notre Dame.'

'The... Wow!How's it?'

'It's big!'

Why do my parents reduce all asthetic connotations to size is beyond my abilities to understand.

'We didn't climb it though.'

'WHY? YOU GO ALL THE WAY TO PARIS AND SEE THE NOTRE DAME AND YOU DIDN'T CLIMB IT.' I checked myself. 'It's expensive?'

'No lah, only three dollars.'

'Then...'

'We're too tired, don't want to climb.'

'You miss the gargoyles!'

'Gargoyles so ugly, what's there to see.' said my mother disparagingly in the background.

Urgh. Hard to answer that one. Maybe to actually touch the remnants of time?

'So chiawyee, want us to buy you anything?'

'No, its ok. Please, please enjoy yourselves.' I pleaded with my parents.

'Ok what. Don't worry. Make sure your brother studies for 'O' level ok?'

A conversation with God part 2

Oh God,

Please don't let me do stupid things with my heart. It's grown a little wild lately.

Must be all the suppressed hormones.

I find myself smiling at the most random of times at memories, and this is beoming increasingly stupid. Like one of those mad girls who screams at their male fans. (ok, not to that extent.)

The scenario is not even logically POSSIBLE.

i am NOT engineered for this.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

love and kisses,

Chiawyee

I am supposed to think about something to write today, but my life has been nothing but a surfeit of monotonous events.

Anyway, I realise how medical school has changed me. I was telling everyone the apparently ironic and funny aspect of my play, where the kids found a plastic skeleton and thought their dad killed someone and hid him there. However, the joke was this: it is a real skeleton!

*pauses for laughter*

So we pretend that a real skeleton is a fake skeleton mistaken for a real skeleton!Isn't it brilliant?

*pauses for more laughter*

Theatre works in its wonderous ways, no?

*silence*

Okay, i think mr lyon will kill me for this blasphemy.

*nods of tentative agreement*

Sigh. Well, we thought it was funny...

It has been a most wonderful event.

The cast is brilliant- if you consider that most of them are without theatre background. It was tremendous fun to infect them with the theatre bug, to see us swear our soul away for next year playhouse despite knowing how time consuming it is going to be.

And it is so much fun to know that you know have a bond with these people that will last forever, the bond forged from assuming another persona and leaving it together.

Well, just look at facebook for the pictures! Best m1 performance in years, i could not be happier.

We'll do a murder musical next year! It'll be fun :D
